kimwebsite 200The PADI Rescue Diver Course teaches you how to effectively perform diver assists and rescues, manage diving accident situations and give first aid. The program is an important step towards expanding your knowledge and experience as a scuba diver. During the course you will cover topics such as diving first aid, panicked diver response, missing diver procedures and search techniques, in-water artificial respiration and take part in dive accident scenarios. The PADI Rescue Diver learns to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well-being of other scuba divers.

What will I Learn during the PADI Rescue Diver Course?

During the PADI Rescue Diver course, you’ll learn rescue-scene assessment and management, how to administer rescue breaths both in and out of the water, how to calm and tow a diver in distress, search and recovery techniques, procedures for surfacing and removing an unconscious diver from the water, correct ways to transport divers with suspected DCS (Decompression Sickness) and the best ways to assist local emergency services. You’ll also learn important self-rescue techniques and how to activate a signalling device (safety balloon).

During the 3 day course you’ll complete confined water sessions, put rescue management procedures in to practise in a real-life scenario and deal with panicked, distressed and unconscious divers in the water.

If you sign up for the PADI Recue Diver Course, you need to have completed an EFR Course, or have been certified in CPR, within the last two years.

Who can participate in the PADI Rescue Diver Course?

If you’re aged 12+ and have already completed the PADI Advanced Course (or equivalent), are in general good health and fitness, and are not suffering from a cold or ear infection, you should be eligible to become a certified PADI Rescue Diver.

You must also have completed the Emergency First Responder Course or have been certified in CPR within the last 2 years (you must provide current certification).

The 3-4 day PADI scuba diving course is designed for the complete beginning to learn the fundamental skills to become a fully certified diver. Your course includes academic training, self-study sessions, pool training sessions and 4 open water dives from our comfortable and friendly dive boats.
You’ll learn how to assemble and take care of your equipment, use the Recreational Dive Planner to plan your dives within accepted safety limits, avoid and deal with potentially difficult situations and complete .
Dives 1 & 2 are to a maximum depth of 12 meters. Dives 3 & 4 are to a maximum depth of 18 metres. You will be under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor at all times.
Who can participate?
If you’re aged 10+, in general good health and fitness, and are not suffering from a cold or ear infection, you should be eligible to become a certified Open Water Diver.

Enhanced PADI Rescue Diver Course


The specific details of dive accident response and management are left to the PADI Rescue Diver course, however PADI have recently launched an entry level course, PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider, outlining the recognition of diving illnesses treatable by emergency oxygen. The Emergency O2 Provider course may be combined with the PADI Rescue Diver course as an enhanced substitute for Rescue Exercise 9: First Aid for Pressure-related Injuries and O2 Administration, and therefore provides 2 certifications. During your PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Course you learn how to:

  • Recognize diving illnesses treatable by emergency oxygen.
  • Properly setup equipment.
  • Administer emergency oxygen.
